Manual
"Manual" is an installation composed of chiffon banners printed with text on their surface.The texts are testimonials from women who explain, in a technical and objective manner, how they reach orgasm. Each testimonial displayed is unique and entirely different from any other.
The work explores the specificity of female sexuality and highlights the awareness and knowledge each woman has about her own body. It also reflects the desire to openly express this awareness, treating female pleasure not as something romantic, sacred, or unattainable, but as something natural and intrinsic to the body.
This project is a continuation of a research process initiated by the artist in 2019, when she collected the testimonies of 200 women from different regions of Brazil, social backgrounds, races, and sexual orientations.
The research resulted in a book made of transparent pages, each containing a different account. Even when closed, the book-object revealed the content within.
This work have been exposed at MAC USP from April to September 2023.
