De/Para - "From-To"

“De/Para” is a series developed during an artistic residency at Centro de Investigação Artística Hangar in Lisbon, Portugal.

During this period, I devoted myself to searching for forgotten treasures in flea markets and antique shops: old love letters.

During this period, I devoted myself to searching for forgotten treasures in flea markets and antique shops: old love letters. Many of them no longer bore identifiable senders or recipients, offering only handwriting, paper, and the intimacy of a suspended time. Over the course of the residency, I gathered more than 500 letters, dated between 1912 and 2008.

From this archive, I began a process of resignification and reinvention. I cut out the phrases that most caught my attention and rearranged them into new fictional dialogues, composing a kind of poetry built from the words of others.

In this way, new letters were written. Within them, the desires and confessions of former lovers begin to converse with writers from other eras, crossing times, intentions, and imaginaries. Impossible correspondences become possible, creating encounters that never took place, yet somehow resonate with the lovers of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
